Packaging specialist Amagoo tackles cybersecurity
Amagoo is a Swiss prepress and packaging specialist. We spoke with Volker Langer, Manager Digital Solutions at Amagoo, about why cybersecurity matters to them and what their experience has been with GObugfree’s Attack Surface Analysis (ASA) and Bugtest.

Volker, who is Amagoo – and does the name have a special meaning?
Amagoo is a Swiss prepress and packaging specialist. We make sure packaging designs are print-ready – with the right colors, the right printing technology, and the right quality. To achieve this, we develop custom workflows and automation solutions, integrate software and tools, manage interfaces, and map the entire process systemically. In short: we make packaging designs ready for production.
The name Amagoo actually has a special meaning – it stands for “amazingly good.” That’s exactly the standard of quality we strive for in all our projects.
Why is cybersecurity important for Amagoo?
Our systems are the backbone of our clients’ projects. If our customers – or we – can’t access the data, everything comes to a halt: no work, no revenue, no company. That’s why we have to identify and minimize threats early, especially since cyberattacks are among today’s biggest business risks. We want to give our customers confidence, not additional worries.
What led you to conduct an Attack Surface Analysis?
Our IT landscape has grown significantly over the years – a mix of Windows-based systems maintained by various parties. When I took over responsibility for Digital Solutions in early 2025, one of my first questions was: How visible are we from the outside? How secure is our setup?
Our industry tends to be rather cautious when it comes to cybersecurity. For us, it was also a chance to stand out positively from our peers.
Why did you choose GObugfree?
We wanted specialists who could give us a neutral and practical assessment of where we stand. The concept behind the Attack Surface Analysis – an automated scan combined with human expertise – really appealed to us. That’s why we chose GObugfree, first for an ASA and later for a Bugtest.
It’s better to prepare with an ethical hacker than be surprised by cybercriminals.
Were there any reservations about working with ethical hackers?
Not really. The idea behind ethical hackers is easy to communicate: It’s better to be tested by an ethical hacker than caught off-guard by a criminal one.
In the end, it’s far better for a hacker on your side to find the vulnerabilities before the bad guys do. Otherwise, you’re in real trouble when something hits – ransomware and all the rest.
There’s no such thing as 100% security. But if you take a proactive approach and test your systems, at least you’re doing something to prevent the worst-case scenario.
What did the results show?
At first glance, the findings looked dramatic. But once we dug deeper, it turned out that many of the issues could be fixed quickly with minimal effort.
We also incorporated other findings into ongoing projects. Overall, we were able to reduce risk and now have a much clearer picture of our external exposure.
We now know exactly which systems are visible from the outside – and potentially vulnerable.
What were the biggest benefits for you?
We now have a clear view of which systems are exposed externally and have already closed the most critical gaps. It also allows us to credibly assure our customers that their data remains protected.
At the same time, we’re sending a signal in an industry where cybersecurity is rarely tackled proactively.
The collaboration with GObugfree was excellent – from meetings to findings to explanations, everything just worked. What we appreciated most was how the team actively contributed their own ideas and suggestions.
What’s next for Amagoo?
We plan to conduct regular Bugtests going forward – and are even considering making these checks a standard step in our customer projects.
Our experience has shown that proactive action and regular assessments are the best ways to defuse the biggest risks.
How secure is your company?
Our Attack Surface Analysis (ASA) gives SMEs a fast, practical overview of what’s exposed to the internet.
GOasa combines automated scanning of your publicly accessible systems with vulnerability checks (including CVEs) and human security analysis. You’ll receive a clear report with prioritized findings and actionable recommendations – ideal for companies that want to know what’s visible from the outside.
