How Adnovum makes its software even more secure

Banks, insurance companies, public authorities - these are the customers of Adnovum, one of the best-known software companies in Switzerland with more than 600 employees worldwide. IT security is a top priority for the internationally active Swiss software company. Why does such a company decide to test with Friendly Hackers?

For Adnovum, it was a matter of testing a specific project that took about three and a half years to complete. During this time, there were changes in personnel and direction, and last but not least, the technology evolved a lot. Edwin Hommes, Senior Project Manager at Adnovum, says, "There was a risk of security vulnerabilities. We wanted to prevent that."

Adnovum is above all concerned with meeting the high demands of its customers. "When you are deeply involved in a project yourself, it can be that you suddenly don't see certain things anymore," says Mr. Hommes. Hence the external audit by GObugfree and its community of Friendly Hackers.

Before the system that had been developed over such a long period of time was handed over to customers, it was deployed in a test environment. There, it was checked for vulnerabilities, so-called bugs, by individual security specialists from the GObugfree community. Such friendly hacker bug tests (comparable to a black box pentest) are recommended in software development as a way of having systems tested by external security researchers from the outside in the spirit of the "four eyes" principle. GObugfree recommends such tests to all organizations that do not know or cannot assess the security maturity level of their software systems.
